Summary of the Cow Master 2024 Conference
The June international conference Cow Master 2024 focused on cattle limb health and attracted leading experts from around the world, who addressed a number of key topics related to claw diseases. The conference was divided into a theoretical part held at the Atom Hotel in Třebíč and practical workshops conducted at the Pooslaví farm in Nová Ves.
Pieter Kloosterman, an expert in claw trimming, emphasized the importance of systematic claw trimming for maintaining claw health. Andrea Fiedler from Germany focused on the recording of claw diseases according to international ICAR standards and highlighted its importance for decision-making in animal treatment. Bertjan Westerlaan spoke about the impact of animal welfare on limb health and identified factors such as heat stress and unsuitable housing conditions that increase the risk of disease.
The practical workshops focused on claw diseases, their prevention, and modern approaches to care. Gerwen Lammers presented new methods in preventive claw treatment, while Prof. Christoph Mülling explained the biomechanics of cattle movement and its influence on claw health. MVDr. Jan Vobr introduced options for the digitalization of claw disease records in relation to the success of therapeutic outcomes and emphasized the importance of high-quality data recording for effective herd health management.
In total, more than 140 farmers, veterinarians, and professional claw trimmers working in cattle management and claw health attended the conference. The event brought new insights that will contribute to improved cattle care and better farm performance. We would like to thank all participants of the Cow Master Conference for the attention they devoted to all lectures and workshops.
